We put our patterns through several reviews before we release them, so it is very frustrating when typography errors occasionally creep in and we can only apologise.

Below is a list of errata we are aware of - if you find something else that should be adjusted, please let us know by emailing questions@janetclare.co.uk

The first row of the cutting table has the quantities of strips and squares reversed. It should indicate that 16 rectangles 12 1/2" x 2 1/2" and 29 squares 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" are needed.

The pattern recommends the use of Marti Michell Storm at Sea Diamond 2-Piece Template Set (8065) to make the diamond blocks. Unfortunately these have been discontinued and can be difficult to find. However, the ‘fussy cut’ templates which can be downloaded here can be used in a similar way or as a guide for cutting the individual pieces when foundation piecing the diamond.

I recorded a YouTube video with FatQuarter shop when this design was first created - it is still worth a watch as it is full of hints and tips on creating the blocks. I’ve include a couple of tips below, but you can find the full video here

Sailing the Blue-Using the diamond template

The diamonds are cut from a strip which is 4 3/32” (or 103.98mm !!) – a tricky thing to measure! This is the distance between two opposite sides of the diamond.

Cut WOF strips for the diamonds using the template as a guide along the lengthwise grain (parallel to the fabric selvedge), then sub cut the diamonds with the template.

Sailing the Blue-Using the triangle template

The corner triangles are cut from 4 ˝” strips, cut conventionally from the crosswise grain (perpendicular to the selvedge). You can place two strips wrong sides together and then using the triangle template to make a cut through both layers yielding a mirror-image pair. These aren’t always required though, so consider cutting them individually.
